Most dog owners eventually wind up buying a bed for their pets. Dog beds are wonderful things to own as they give "Fido" his or her own place in the house. But which bed to buy? There are several types of dog beds out there. Regardless of the type, you will want to buy an orthopedic pet bed to ensure that your pet has the most comfortable bed available.
1. Bolster Dog Beds - These type of beds are best for dogs who like to lean against something when they sleep. Typically these beds will have a small bolster at the back end, or they may even resemble a small couch.
2. Donut Dog Beds - Donut beds are ideal for dogs who like to burrow into their beds and sleep in a curled position. If you have a small dog and also have cats, they may wind up competing for this bed. This bed is also a great choice for dogs who like to burrow into your blankets or laundry basket. Simply add a small dog blanket, or towel to the bed.
3. Dog Pads or Pillows - Some dogs sprawl. These are the dogs who like to join you in bed and relegate you to a quarter of your mattress. A pad on the floor will help to alleviate this problem.
If you don't know how your dog prefers to sleep, spend a week or two observing him or her while napping throughout the day. This will give you a good idea which type of bed your dog would be happiest with. Remember, studies have shown that most animals prefer orthopedic pet beds over other types of mattresses or pillows.
